Marylhurst faculty member Justin Smith will travel to Greece in July 2017 to serve on the jury panel for the 35th Preveza International Choral Festival.
Dr. Smith, director of choral activities at Marylhurst University, is one of several “internationally acclaimed experts in the field” invited to participate in judging the prestigious Preveza international choral competition.
The International Choral Festival of Preveza, held annually in July for the past 35 years, welcomes choirs from across Europe and beyond: Canada, Czech Republic, Greece, Romania and Serbia are just a few of the countries represented in 2017. Four full days of choral activities include numerous concerts given at idyllic locations such as the seaside fortress of Preveza and the historic Ancient Auditorium of Nikopolis Odeon. Choirs may join the festival either as non-competitive choirs, participating in all the performances of the festival, or as competitive choirs.
Justin Smith is the director of choral activities in the music program at Marylhurst University, where he conducts three choirs: Marylhurst Chorale, Marylhurst Choral Union and Marylhurst Chamber Choir. He also teaches music history and conducting at Marylhurst.
