Linda Beardsley, education and science faculty, received an Extra Yard for Teachers Award for her dedication to her students and profession.
In September 2016, the half-time break in an Oregon State University football game saw Linda Beardsley taking the field. In front of the appreciative crowd, she was awarded $10,000 from the College Football Playoff Foundation’s Extra Yard For Teachers program. The cash award went to the math department at Stephens Middle School in Salem, where Linda has taught since 2001.
Oregon State University, partnering with the College Football Playoff Foundation, used social media to seek nominations and votes for the award. Linda emerged as the clear favorite. Her anonymous nominator said that Linda “gives her life to teaching.”
The College Football Playoff Foundation supports education across the country through programs such as Extra Yard for Teachers, which aims to elevate the teaching profession by inspiring and empowering quality teachers.
Linda Beardsley teaches elementary math literacy in the M.A. in Teaching program at Marylhurst University. She also teaches science and math classes to students seeking bachelor’s degrees at Marylhurst.
