Marylhurst student Lisa Michelle Gardner is the recipient of the 2016 American Association of University Women Lake Oswego Branch’s scholarship.
After being in the workforce for 25 years, Lisa Michelle Gardner found herself unexpectedly unemployed. She decided it was time to earn her bachelor’s degree. A single mother of two, Lisa sets a great example: one of persistence and success. After exceptional work at Portland Community College (maintaining a 4.0 GPA), Lisa transferred to Marylhurst, where she is pursuing a B.A. in Communication.
The American Association of University Women is a nationwide network of more than 170,000 members and donors, 1000 branches and 100 college/university partners. For 134 years, AAUW members have examined and taken on the fundamental issues of the day: educational, social, economic and political. AAUW’s fellowships and grants have provided more than $100 million to more than 12,000 women and projects from 140 countries since 1888. For the 2016–17 academic year alone, more than 230 women and community projects serving women and girls will receive $3.7 million.
