Jenny M. Chu is the daughter of immigrant parents from Saigon and Hong Kong, the first of her immediate family to go to college, and the only to graduate. She received her bachelor’s from Marylhurst University and received her MFA in Writing from the University of San Francisco. She’s currently serving on the core committee of AWE: Arts Workers for Racial & Ethnic Equity in Portland, Oregon, is on the board of PICA, is the Program Coordinator at Write Around Portland, and runs a small submission-based literary apparel line called BACKWORDS Press. You can find her most current preoccupations under the Blog tab on the BACKWORDS Press website. As of late, she’s been coping with the doomsday political climate by watching Neil deGrasse Tyson on the show Cosmos. She is finding relief that humans in all their glory and terror, are a mere blip in the time scale of the universe: we are the last minute of the last night of the cosmic calendar (a visualization tool, scaling down 13.8 billion years of cosmic history into a single calendar year) – yet, she’s still grounded here on earth in solidarity, in resistance, and will continue to work toward justice until another minute in the cosmic calendar makes this all irrelevant.
